Included in the following list are books specific to anxiety as well as depression. But also listed are very important books to help the reader deal with other life issues that can accompany anxiety and depression. Some of these books are out of print or are very difficult to find, but are available with the following links.

I advise anyone with an anxiety disorder begin by reading the two  theories of anxiety that I have summarized on this site:

Clark's Theory of Catastrophic Misinterpretation

I also advise reading part of my dissertation posted on this site. Chapter One is a brief overview of the prominent theories of anxiety and briefly explains the reasons for anxiety and panic. Chapter Two  expands on the causes of anxiety and panic.

Please note book descriptions below. Most of these books are self-help, therefore are easy reading. Some are academic and may be more difficult. The following books are listed by  subject:

ANXIETY/DEPRESSION

Feeling Good Handbook    ** 4 stars **
This and his other books have come to be my top rated books on anxiety and depression due to the effectiveness of Dr. Burns approach. I have worked personally with Dr. Burns and am very impressed with his empathic and very effective techniques. I believe his approach, like mine, that combines CBT and "Insight" into hidden emotions is the key to true resolution of symptoms. These books are some of the most popular, and popularly recommended, books on a cognitive approach to understanding and eliminating anxiety and depression.
